  Industrial Applications

Industrial application of bamboo is promoted under TBM in partnership with NMBA. The industrial applications of bamboo include installation of bamboo based gassifiers, development of bamboo charcoal, introduction of mechanised stick making units and mechanised feeder units for mat making. Bamboo charcoal is an important raw material for rolled incense sticks. The technology involves introduction

BAMBOO Gassifier

Bamboo biomass gasification system is an excellent source of renewable power. The electricity generated from gassifier is termed as “green power” as it recycles all bamboo waste and by-products as biomass. It is an incremental source of power that ensures uninterrupted source of electricity and increases the cost-efficiency of commercial operations. TBM is association with NMBA has installed four 25 KW bamboo based gassifier unit in following locations:

Mechanized Stick Making

Mechanized sticks are used for production of Venetian blinds, home utility items and premium incense sticks, which have a high market potential. To capture this opportunity, TBM will build a state-wide production capacity for mechanised sticks and products based on use of machine made sticks by mobilizing private investments.
A standard stick making project involves a minimum investment of Rs 1 Crore with an installed capacity of 450 MT per annum. TBM in partnership with NMBA has facilitated 3 such units in the state. Units are as follows:

  • M/s P S Green Gold is located in Dharmanagar, North Tripura.
  • M/s Banik Agro Forest Products Pvt Ltd located in Agartala
  • St Xaviers Vocational Training School, Bishramga

bAMBOO Charcoal

Bamboo Charcoal is an important ingredient for rolled stick making. A standard community based charcoal unit has minimum 5 charcoal kilns that will yield 1 MT of charcoal per day. It is a low investment venture requiring a total capital of Rs. 10,000 per installation. Given the low scale of capital investment and large scale availability of bamboo the unit presents a low breakeven point since the charcoal can sell for Rs. 6-7 per kg. Bamboo charcoal venture can be spread across the state to meet the rolled stick requirements as most bamboo species can be used in the process. Due to the low capital investment and simplified process, bamboo charcoal manufacturing facilities can be community driven resulting in large scale benefits.
