The National Conference on Bamboo Plantation & Value Addition has been organized by Tripura Bamboo Mission at Pragna Bhawan, Pt. Nehru Complex in Agartala, the capital city of Tripura from 5th to 7th August, 2011.

This conference was organized with support from National Bamboo Mission (NBM), Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India. It was an opportunity to the persons engaged in bamboo sector to share their ideas for strengthening the bamboo based industries in the state. The conference provided a platform for several top level Govt. officials related to bamboo from the states & center, bamboo entrepreneurs, experts of national & International organizations in this field to participate, discuss, debate & suggest on various issues and opportunities in the sector. National conference was followed by buyer seller meet and investors meet for Tripura Bamboo Park.

IITF:

India International Trade Fair is organized every year at the month of November at Pragati Maidan,New Delhi.It is the largest international trade show in the country. Tripura Bamboo Mission is participating in this fair since few years to showcase and promote Tripura Bamboo products.Space for exhibition and scale is provided by THHDC at Tripura Pavilion at the Pragati Maidan.Like the previous years, this year also Tripura Bamboo Mission is going to participate in the IITF, 2011. This year participants will be from Natural Weaves and Crafts,Baikhora, Contemporary Asoociation of Rural Empowerment(CARE),Kalibazar ,the SPV(Special Purpose Vehicle)of Handicraft entrepreneurs and producers of Tripura promoted by Tripura Bamboo Mission along with their bamboo products.

OUTSIDE STATE EXPOSURE:

Tripura Bamboo Mission implementing centrally sponsored scheme of National Bamboo Mission. Member of SHG’s, JFMC’s, Societies etc selected through PRI’s Horticulture department and Forest department are being sent to Shilchar, Noagaon, Dimapur, Kuhima, Shilong, Karimgang, Hailakandi, Aizawl, Lengpui, Mamit. Outside the state visit have been important opportunities to share the learning and experiences of other organizations and institutions working in the area of bamboo cultivation and value addition. The exposure also educated the participants on the market potential for bamboo based products in mainstream markets and the various development in technology, design development and enterprise management in the bamboo sector. The team visited the bamboo plantation location raised by forest department and other individuals in the area.

DISTRICT LEVEL WORKSHOP:

Under National Bamboo Mission programme three district level workshop have been organized in North District- Kumarghat, South District- Udaipur, Dhalai – Ambassa. These workshops have provided a platform for discussions on key issues, challenges and opportunities for the sector. There is substantial knowledge sharing, experience sharing, and development of policy recommendations that is facilitated through these workshops. Around 147, 142 and 164 participants from different JFMCs, SHGs, societies and other line departments have participated at Kumarghat, Udaipur and Ambasa respectively in the district level workshop.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS:

Tripura Bamboo Mission in collaboration with Cane Concept, Dimapur has been organizing Training of Trainer (ToT) for bamboo artisans of Tripura on basketry and packaging material production under the DoNER program. Master artisans from Nalchar, Charilam, Bagabasa are being send to Dimapur, Nagaland for Industrial Exposure cum Training for a period of one month. The Trainer were given training on different designs, size and colour of bamboo and cane products.

With support from ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) training programs are being organized at Nalchar, Charilam, Bagabasa, Jogendranagar, Kaladhipa etc on Bamboo Basketry, Bamboo Bags and Accessories. The ToT for trainer has been done at Nagaland and the designer from NIFT, New Delhi are imparting the training program at the field level.

NATIONAL INNOVATION COUNCIL:

National Innovation Council under the office of Prime Minister of India has selected Tripura Bamboo Cluster under its innovation programme. National Innovation Council (NInC) was set up to discuss, analyse and help implement strategies for its innovation clusters initiative,develope and increase the innovation capacity and capability of agarbatti industry, generating new growth ,increased productivity and competitiveness and creating new markets and job opportunities in the state and to prepare a roadmap for innovation 2010-2020.It is an initiative taken to find innovations in Bamboo Agarbatti sector like substitute of Jigat, better people oriented agarbatti machines etc. Three senior scientists of CSIR namely Dr.A.K Singh,Dr.R.P Bhonsal and Prof Ram Rajsekharan CSIR-CIMEP are visiting Agartala,Tripura from 2nd Nov to 4th Nov,2011 to visit various agarbatti clusters and initiate the innovation programme.
High capacity agarbatti masala pulvesizing unit, Kumarghat Sree Balaji Udyog a leading agarbatti production organization in collaboration with NMBA with support from TBM has established one masala pulverizing unit at Kumarghat in North Tripura. The capacity of the unit is 100 metric ton per month and is expected that it will be able to meet the state masala unit in the coming days. Mrs.Manju Araya from NMBA is visiting the unit and other production centre in Agartala from 1st Nov to 3rd Nov, 2011.
